Adopt Bram

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 11 years

Bram is a mix breed German Shepherd of about 26 kilograms. The time spent in the cage is getting longer and longer for our Bram. Despite all the love provided by our volunteers and the company of his girlfriend Idylle, he would like to find the warmth of a home. It is a dog who will only reveal himself to his future adopters if they take the time to come meet him. Bram arrived at the shelter in April 2017 following abandonment by his owner. His difficulty in trusting humans testifies to a hard past of suffering and abuse... but he also knows that some humans only want his well-being and have plenty of love to give him. Bram is a very affectionate dog once trust is established. He is sociable with other animals of the same species (he lives in a yard during the day with his girlfriend Idylle!) but can be wary. If you already have another dog, the compatibility will need to be tested for safety. He does not get along with cats or children, due to his timid nature. Bram enjoys walks and has a good recall. We are looking for a home without children or cats for Bram. He can live with other dogs and will enjoy his daily walks. He also seeks patient people, familiar with shelter dogs and their sometimes heavy past. Bram is in SOS due to his long time at the shelter and his advancing age. He can be adopted directly or placed in a permanent foster home. My story — Bram arrived at the shelter in April 2017 following abandonment by his owner. About Bram

What life with Bram looks like

Bram is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Le refuge du Penthièvre et du Méné in France.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bram, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bram?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Le refuge du Penthièvre et du Méné handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bram on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bram if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Le refuge du Penthièvre et du Méné will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bram already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bram isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Le refuge du Penthièvre et du Méné early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bram and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
