Brianna

English Bulldog · Female · Puppy · 8 months

Brianna has sadly been returned to us through no fault of her own. She's a big dog now, and looking for an active family that will let her lead a regular life. As a pup, we initially believed to Brianna had a minor heart murmur but as she grew, our vet team realised it was actually mitral valve dysplasia, a condition that causes her heart to leak blood back into the atrium. As Brianna and her heart grow, this is likely to lead to congestive heart failure. Whilst we don’t know how long she has, Brianna is blissfully unaware of our worries and continues to live life to the full. She’s a Catahoula Leopard Dog/American Bulldog cross and a very strong girl who needs some constructive guidance. Reward-based training and lots of appropriate socialisation will be essential for Brianna. She's rather nervous of new places but withe the right family behind her, she should blossom into a wonderful adult dog. She's great with people, so very friendly and loving, and she really does melt everyone she meets. Brianna can live with other dogs and children of upper high school age. She will need some basic training but she is house trained and can be left alone for an hour or two once she has settled in to her new home. A home on a quieter street is needed as she doesn't like loud traffic. Brianna has mitral valve dysplasia, a heart condition that is expected to significantly shorten her lifespan. We're happy to talk this through with any one who might like more information before applying.

About Brianna

What life with Brianna looks like

Brianna is a large puppy/kitten english bulldog dog waiting at Dogs Trust Merseyside in Liverpool.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Brianna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Brianna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Merseyside handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Brianna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Brianna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Merseyside will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Brianna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Brianna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Merseyside early rather than rehoming privately; they know Brianna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
