Brick

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Brick was allowed to travel to its German foster home. For his ultimate happiness, he just needs his own family, which he eagerly awaits. September 26, 2025: Brick, now named Charly, found a home in April 2021 that he unfortunately lost completely without fault. Due to personal issues, the family asked us to find a new home for the proud male dog. Now, he is searching for a loving forever home where he can finally belong. Brick loves long walks and exploring his surroundings, sniffing and climbing hills. Kids are great – with them, you can make a lot of silly talk :-). He also knows basic commands, though the recall isn’t perfect. There’s so much to discover on the way, which can sometimes distract him. His leash manners need further training. He enjoys car rides. Brick is a clever fellow who loves intelligence games. Brick needs people who enjoy spending time with him. He loves being in nature and, unusually for a Sard, loves the winter. So, where are the consistent and sporty nature lovers who enjoy experiencing a lot with their four-legged friend? December 27, 2025: Today, Brick was photographed by the photographer Katrin Schneeberger, a big thank you to Kati, who met the foster mom and did great supportive work with new photos! The male dog, originally named Brick, has been called Charly for many years. Since this name has long belonged to him, we would like to continue calling him Charly. We hope that with these wonderful pictures, Charly will find his home soon. Would you give Charly the chance to belong and become a part of your family? May 25, 2026: Brick-Charly hasn’t had much luck in his life so far. He’s not a dog for everyone. He’s a free spirit looking for people who understand him, give him space, and show him that he doesn’t have to take on responsibility. For Charly, we wish for calm, sovereign people with some space and a heart in the right place. People who don’t have to be perfect but are honest and willing to accept him as he is. If you are aware that adoption means not only joy but also responsibility and engagement, we look forward to your message. We provide nationwide placement.

About Brick

What life with Brick looks like

Brick is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Brick, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Brick?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Brick on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Brick if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Brick already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Brick isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Brick and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
