Britta

European Shorthair · Female · Young · 1 year

Lady In Red Status: open Name: Britta Breed: EKH Gender: female/spayed Color: red Born: 01.05.2025 Compatible with: same-species animals Britta and her kittens came to the association as found animals. The situation of finding them was already a bit strange... Britta had chosen a chicken coop to give birth to her kittens safely. In itself, one would think it's not such a bad idea... But Mama Britta had made the calculation without Miss Hen, who was a hen in every way. Miss Hen was absolutely convinced that these six cute cat babies must have hatched from her eggs! And so she started immediately with her motherly role, as chickens do it. Zack, up on the nest, defend and keep warm. Britta's desperation grew with the hungry cries of her babies more and more, but Miss Hen fiercely repelled her and Britta had no chance to reach her kittens. Finally, the chicken coop owners also noticed the strange scenes that were playing out and called in animal welfare... Fortunately, the cat family could be secured quickly and reunited on their foster home. A rather relieved mother and hungry babies cuddled up together immediately. In the foster home, the cat family is developing splendidly and soon it can be said, "Pack your bags." We hope for Britta that she will also be seen and find her family quickly. Britta is a loving cat who likes to be brushed and stroked extensively. With strangers, she is sometimes still a bit frightened and needs some time to build trust. Our kittens must be spayed at 6 months of age. This must be proven to the association by a sterilization certificate. Wishful home: For Britta we are looking for a home preferably with a nice same-species companion. Free access in traffic-calmed residential areas should she definitely enjoy again after sufficient acclimatization time. Britta would feel most comfortable in a quieter household, with people who give her the time to get used to it. Contact: If you want to meet our Lady In Red, please contact Anja Kalisch

About Britta

What life with Britta looks like

Britta is a young adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierschutzverein 7 Gebirge e.V. — Orscheider Hof in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Britta, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Britta?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein 7 Gebirge e.V. — Orscheider Hof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Britta on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Britta if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein 7 Gebirge e.V. — Orscheider Hof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Britta already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Britta isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein 7 Gebirge e.V. — Orscheider Hof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Britta and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
