Brownie

Persian · Male · Adult · 9 years

Who will open the door to Brownie's home? Brownie is a beautiful 9-year-old Persian cat who has just arrived at Animales Rioja because his owners could no longer care for him. He has only been at the shelter for a day, but he is completely disoriented. He stays hidden in his kennel, very scared and stressed. For a cat who has always lived in a home, the shelter is a very hard change. We can't tell you what his character is yet, because right now he just needs time to feel safe. What we do know is that no cat deserves to go through this stage of their life among the stress and noise of a shelter. We are urgently looking for temporary foster care or, better yet, a permanent adoption. He needs a quiet home where he can trust and feel loved again. If you think you can help Brownie, contact Animales Rioja. And if you can't adopt or foster him, help us by sharing this post. Maybe among your contacts is the person who will change his life forever. Brownie just needs a second chance. For more information about adoptions: DISCOVER HOW TO HELP US

About Brownie

What life with Brownie looks like

Brownie is a adult persian cat waiting at Animales Rioja in Spain.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Brownie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Brownie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animales Rioja handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Brownie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Brownie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animales Rioja will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Brownie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Brownie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animales Rioja early rather than rehoming privately; they know Brownie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
