Bruce

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Bruce is a small, black male dog with white markings: he wears an "apron" as well as "socks." According to the veterinarian's assessment, he was born around 2021, so he is roughly four years old. So far, Bruce still finds it difficult to trust people. He often freezes in "freeze mode" as soon as someone approaches him, and he is reluctant to leave his protective kennel. However, during our last visit in August 2025, Bruce surprised us: he actually came out of his kennel and ate the treats we had brought. A small but important step in the right direction. Bruce was rescued from the Public Shelter in Husi in January 2024 and has since been patiently waiting for a second chance. He needs empathetic, patient people who give him time and let him settle in without pressure. A calm environment and a great deal of understanding are very important for his continued growth in trust. Bruce is looking for a loving home or a patient foster home to accompany him on his journey. Bruce is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and will be placed with a protection contract following a positive pre-screening. General note about our dogs: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can reassess their behavior and development again and again. These personal impressions help us greatly in presenting each individual dog as accurately as possible. However, we would like to point out that a dog in a new environment, with new people, new routines, and new impressions, may behave differently. This is completely normal and part of any process of change. Many dogs open up even faster in a home and show sides that were not visible at the shelter. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee of any particular behavior in a new environment. They are meant to provide guidance and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter, and what potential lies within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

About Bruce

What life with Bruce looks like

Bruce is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bruce, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bruce?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bruce on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bruce if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Bruce already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bruce isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bruce and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
