Bruce’s Story Bruce, has been at the shelter for quite some time and also experienced a difficult start in life. He arrived with Otis, both very frightened, though Bruce was slightly less fearful. Initially, Bruce did not enjoy being touched, as he, too, had never been shown affection. Over time, he became comfortable enough to allow volunteers to put a lead on him and stroke him, but walking outside the cage remained too stressful. As the shelter environment became noisier and more overwhelming, Bruce has reverted to shying away from contact; now, volunteers cannot put a lead on him, and he moves away from touch. Occasionally, he allows gentle strokes, but his fear is still apparent, and, like Otis, he is not yet ready to leave his cage. Bruce is startled by sudden movements and loud noises, which are unavoidable in the shelter. Nevertheless, Bruce is a gentle and timid soul, showing only sadness and fear, never aggression. With time, patience, and care, Bruce will prove to be a devoted and loving companion. Bruce, too, needs to find a forever home together with Otis, as they are closely bonded. A quiet, loving home with someone experienced and patient is essential for helping Bruce gain confidence and trust. It would be heart-warming to see Bruce running about, playing, and finally enjoying the affection he has missed.
