Bruno

Male · Young · 2 years

Bruno, neutered male dog, 2 years old, approximately 55 to 60 cm tall, foreign. Background. Bruno came into the shelter a few months ago because his owner no longer wanted to care for him. This owner had kept Bruno on a leash since he was a puppy. Because Bruno sometimes had sores on his neck, he would let him off the leash for a while. Then Bruno would go to the shelter to play with the other dogs. His owner would then pick him up again. Until one day Bruno was limping a little and was taken to the vet by people. The vet called the owner and told him that Bruno needed to be examined, neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. The owner then said he didn't want to spend any money on his dog. And so Bruno ended up in the shelter. The wounds on his neck have healed, although his neck is still a bit bare. Bruno enjoys his (reasonable) freedom, the dogs mainly run in groups together and are not kept in small kennels. But of course Bruno is also looking for his own place and his own owner. Character. Bruno is an energetic, cheerful, loving dog who loves to run around. He has a few big friends in the shelter, but he gets along well with all the dogs. Sometimes Bruno is overly enthusiastic, for example when he gets a treat. He mainly shows this by barking. We are looking for a home for Bruno where he can also be outside a lot. Bruno would greatly appreciate a dog-friendly person as well as (long) walks. Because of his barking, he could scare children, but older children are no problem.

NL·Show original

Bruno, gecastreerde reu, 2 jaar, ca. 55 tot 60 cm. hoog, buitenland. Achtergrond.

About Bruno

What life with Bruno looks like

Bruno is a extra-large young adult dog waiting at Stichting AAI in Amsterdam.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bruno, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bruno?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting AAI handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bruno on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bruno if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting AAI will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bruno already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bruno isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting AAI early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bruno and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
