Brutus

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Brutus was entrusted to the association in September 2023. His master was hospitalized and could no longer take care of him, with little chance of returning home. During the master's hospitalization, his neighbors took care of Brutus, who was living in unsanitary conditions. They began the socialization and outing process and contacted the association for care. This is an elderly dog we have taken in, perturbed, and with much to learn, which is why we are publishing him for adoption so late. Brutus is a pot of glue, always in search of his human presence. When he arrived, he was not clean, but now that has been resolved! He knows how to be alone at home, but may whine or scratch at the door during the adaptation period. Eventually, he settles down. So, he still needs to be worked on. He is not particularly a guard dog and does not bark at the slightest noise. He is therefore fully adapted to apartment life, even though he loves to walk in the garden and, of course, outdoors in general. He gets along well with cats. For dogs, it goes well. He can be wary of large dogs that impress him at first. On walks, he is always very focused on the smells, taking his time to analyze them. He takes the "neighborhood journal" very seriously. He is not reactive on walks towards families, bicycles, cars, etc., no problems. However, we will remain vigilant about the leash length because sometimes he veers off the sidewalk if given too much slack. In the car, he is well-behaved and not car-sick. He has already taken public transportation and accepts wearing a muzzle. His size allows for easy travel with him. Now, the remaining negative points… He is a dog who has likely missed out on food throughout his life, as he was very reactive to food upon arrival and can still be, especially his human food. This is not systematic and depends on the family profile. He may refuse his dry kibble but want to steal food from tables or the kitchen (his sniffer works very well). He may also growl if disputed about leaving the kitchen (though this is not systematic, vigilance is still required). For this, we will avoid families with young children. Health: He is in excellent condition for his age and walks without any problems. He takes a daily heart medication, which he takes very well hidden in a bit of cheese. He had an abscess, due to an untreated bite. It is completely healed, although there are still traces of hair that have not regrown in the area of intervention. He is doing very well. BRUTUS is microchipped, vaccinated, and treated for fleas and worms. He is neutered. He is adoptable in Ile-de-France under an associative contract with the Refuge Rêves de Chiens. A financial contribution will be requested. The financial contribution will be reduced in the case of Jaïgga because we consider him in a "SOS" health profile. About Brutus

What life with Brutus looks like

Brutus is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at 30 Millions d'Amis in Paris.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Rescued from abuse or abandonment, may require specialized equine care

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Brutus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Brutus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. 30 Millions d'Amis handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Brutus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Brutus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — 30 Millions d'Amis will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Brutus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Brutus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with 30 Millions d'Amis early rather than rehoming privately; they know Brutus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
