Adopt Buck

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Please meet the very handsome Buck, who has travelled all the way from Romania in the hope of finding his forever home. Since arriving here a few months ago, Buck has truly blossomed! Initially a little shy with new people, he now settles quickly and happily shows off his affectionate, gentle nature. He loves attention, enjoys fuss, and is more than happy to make new friends once he feels comfortable. Buck is such a comical boy, always finding little ways to make you smile, but he is also incredibly affectionate. He has that spark of energy that brightens even the hardest of days. Buck absolutely loves his food. You’ll hear his excited bark echo around the rescue at mealtimes without fail. He also really enjoys his walks and having a good run around the big yard, where he can let out all that happy energy. Buck also has the most cuddly side to him; he loves nothing more than resting his head on your lap while he slowly dozes off to sleep. Buck has boundless, puppy-like energy and is so much fun to spend time with. He is happy, bouncy, and full of life, with an infectious enthusiasm that staff and volunteers can’t help but fall in love with. He walks beautifully on a harness and has made fantastic progress with lead confidence, now happily trotting along on a slip lead without a care in the world. Buck was briefly adopted but was sadly returned as he didn't get along with the resident dog. Buck enjoys the company of well mannered female does and does enjoy sharing his kennel with another dog, so we would consider homing him with a laid back female dog if they were the right match. He can get a little jealous of sharing attention with another dog, but in the right home with experienced adopters this could be managed. That said, Buck would be equally happy to be homed as the only dog and get all the love and attention for himself. Buck would be best suited to adopters who have experience of owning dogs from a similar background before and who are around most of the time, so they can spend lots of time with him. He would love to find an active home where he can be kept both physically and mentally stimulated and enjoy plenty of walks and adventures with his new family. He could share his home with older, dog-savvy teenagers aged 16 and over, who can appreciate and understand that he will need a gentle, quiet introduction to the home and his own space to settle in. Although Buck had never lived in a home before being adopted, he settled in wonderfully and was clean in the house. He wasn’t phased by the TV or radio and quickly found the sofas and beds! He can still be a little shy when first meeting men, but it doesn’t take him long to warm up. Buck also isn’t keen on sudden loud noises or sticks and brooms, so this is something his adopters will need to work on desensitising him to. He doesn’t like having his front paws touched, but he will politely let you know by gently pulling them away. Buck is a truly special boy with so much love to give. He is absolutely wasted in kennels and will make a loyal, devoted companion for a very lucky family. He arrived with no tail, but this doesn’t bother him in the slightest and only adds to his charm. Please don’t overlook this wonderful lad, as Buck is more than ready to find his forever home. Buck has received negative test results for Brucellosis, Leishmania, Giardia, Heartworm, Ehrlichia canis, Borrelia burgdorferi and Anaplasma. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Buck

What life with Buck looks like

Buck is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Must be only dog in household due to resource guarding and jealousy issues

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Buck, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Buck?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Buck on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Buck if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Buck already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Buck isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Buck and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
