over: 🍀 Other dogs: yes Other animals: must be tested, cats would probably be okay Children: only if he is under control, from age 14 and with solid dog experience: yes, definitely Special: needs confident dog handlers, preferably to watch over the property/herd Hello, I am Buddy, a giant baby 😊 As a cute little puppy, I was acquired, oh dear, and then I grew and grew and became bigger. People, this is normal! Puppyhood involves growing, and during puberty, we can also be a bit challenging. All of this was too much for my family, and I was brought to the animal shelter. Truly sad. 🙀 But now, a new life begins for me! I am looking for people who are interested in a large dog and have experience with dogs. You should be steadfast, have plenty of space, and be ready to work with me. I came to the animal shelter as a genuine rough diamond. But I learn quickly. Out for walks, I behave impeccably. From my character, I am a sensitive, cautious dog, like many from HSH, but when it comes to something, I am ready and stand my ground, there is no backing down. My job, watching the house and farm, I take very seriously and show what I can do. Strangers should not enter my territory. My people are also defended, and someone must lead me who really knows what they are doing, otherwise, I will do it. You see, I am not just a simple dog and am looking for responsible, confident, breed enthusiasts who understand me, but above all, can lead me so that nothing happens. PS: I am not rehomed as a status symbol or for show. Do you have enough dog experience and the time to properly challenge a young dog? Then send an email to: and tell me a lot about yourselves. Maybe we can meet each other in person soon. 🐾🐾 Videos: Buddy learns to meet cats "click here" Buddy at work "click here".

About Buddy

What life with Buddy looks like

Buddy is a large adult dog waiting at Tierheim Stuttgart in Stuttgart.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs experienced handler for guarding behavior management

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Buddy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Buddy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Stuttgart handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Buddy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Buddy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Stuttgart will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Buddy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Buddy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Stuttgart early rather than rehoming privately; they know Buddy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
