Buddy

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Buddy is a powerful, weathered, and character-strong male dog seeking an experienced handler. One is sought after who has the necessary experience to carry out a loving yet consistent upbringing. Buddy is a very affectionate male dog who loves the contact with people, but here also likes to test his boundaries. Once Buddy has built trust, he is loyal, clingy, and deeply connected. He grew up with a female Chihuahua, which is why he knows pack life. Otherwise, he had less contact with other animals and therefore needs time to get to know other dogs. Here, too, it depends on the sympathy. Cats are scary to him, so he prefers to keep them at a distance. For some time now, it has been hard for him to be alone, probably also due to the breakup of the pack. Here, training and patience are required. Just like with leash training, this must be further trained. In the summer months, he is fighting an allergy, for which he now always takes medication. Otherwise, he is healthy, lively, and is already looking forward to meeting. The surrender is done with heavy hearts and circumstances due to a family illness. Unfortunately, we can no longer offer him the bidding he deserves, which is why we decided to surrender him for his sake. We ask for an initial contact via email if you are interested, preferably with a brief introduction of yourself. If you provide a phone number, we will also contact you shortly. Contact:

About Buddy

What life with Buddy looks like

Buddy is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Northeim.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Buddy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Buddy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Northeim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Buddy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Buddy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Northeim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Buddy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Buddy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Northeim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Buddy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
