Adopt Buffy

German Shepherd · Female · Young · 3 years

Moving - Change of Circumstances The bad luck has a name - Buffy Hello, my name is Buffy, I am a "White Swiss Female German Shepherd" – and they say I am a real beauty. On April 8, 2026, I arrived at the animal shelter in Lengerich. And yes, ... now I am already the third German Shepherd here. I really haven’t done anything wrong or committed any faults. There were significant changes in the living situation of my family, and with a heavy heart, they had to part ways with me. Unfortunately, I can't go back – so I guess I have to get used to a new life. To be honest? I'm not really in the mood for it right now. Everything here is so different and unfamiliar to me: unknown people, loud noises, and nothing feels familiar. Comfort is different here, and it will probably take me some time to understand everything. But I do bring a lot of good things with me: I am still young, house-trained, and can stay alone for a while. I grew up with children and cats and know how to live together well. I bond strongly with my humans, and cuddling is one of my core competencies – I love to lie comfortably on the sofa and enjoy the closeness to my two-legged friends. I also know a few basic commands – although I haven't revealed exactly which ones yet. I don't walk perfectly on the leash yet, simply because I haven't been trained to do so. With a little patience and training, I will surely get the hang of it quickly; we White Swiss German Shepherds are known for being intelligent and eager to learn. By the way, we need a "job" to be content and relaxed in life. However, I must admit one small weakness: I don't like car rides; I get sick, and saliva runs out of my mouth. But I don't vomit. Now I wish for people who will give me time to settle in, who understand me, train with me, and show me again how beautiful a home can be. I'm waiting … but please hurry … so I don't share the fate of Rex and Milla. Animal adoptions are currently only by appointment. We therefore ask you to contact us in advance by phone at 05481 / 4146 or by email if you are interested in any of our animals.

About Buffy

What life with Buffy looks like

Buffy is a young adult german shepherd dog waiting at Tierheim Tecklenburger Land in Lengerich.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Buffy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Buffy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Tecklenburger Land handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Buffy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Buffy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Tecklenburger Land will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Buffy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Buffy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Tecklenburger Land early rather than rehoming privately; they know Buffy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
