How do I contact the shelter about Buffy (Hospiz)?

Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Buffy (Hospiz) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.

Can I adopt Buffy (Hospiz) if I live in another country?

Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.

Is Buffy (Hospiz) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?

Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.

What happens if Buffy (Hospiz) isn't the right fit?

Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Buffy (Hospiz) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.

Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?

TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.

Buffy (Hospiz)

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 13 years

Buffy is a 2013-born, spayed mixed breed dog who was taken from her owner some time ago due to inadequate care. She was kept exclusively in the garden and wandered the streets out of boredom. There she was repeatedly chased away by people and as a result, she increasingly lost her trust in humans. Buffy eventually came to our Hungarian partner animal shelter, where she initially showed herself to be very uncertain and anxious. She spent most of her life in the shelter until she developed a severe cough and it became clear that she needed more care. Fortunately, Buffy found a wonderful hospice home in Lower Austria, where she can now spend her twilight years. There she lives happily with her dog sister, another rescued dog, and enjoys her days in the beautiful garden. Buffy can finally live in safety and experience the peace and security she has been missing for so long. Unfortunately, further examinations and a necessary dental treatment are required, resulting in costs of around 800 euros. Due to her cough, Buffy was thoroughly examined. X-rays and ultrasound showed that the cough is probably due to an old, inadequately treated lung infection. Her condition is now being closely monitored in her hospice home. Additionally, Buffy has several painful teeth that need to be removed. The dental treatment is therefore urgently necessary so that she can enjoy her twilight years as pain-free as possible.

About Buffy (Hospiz)

What life with Buffy (Hospiz) looks like

Buffy (Hospiz) is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Austria in Wien.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.
