adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Burton has found his people! His story: Our Burton is about 3 years old and comes with a rather large size of 60 cm. The pictures speak for themselves! The positive aura that Burton exudes, shines through the screen and shows what a great male dog our handsome Burton is. He is lively, curious, always friendly, and oriented towards people. He also gets along well with his fellow animals. But as life goes, nobody is perfect: Burton's right front leg is mostly stiffened due to an old injury. We don't know how this injury came about, as he was already found on the street. Additionally, he has advanced arthritis in his left hind leg, which developed from a cruciate ligament tear that has since been operated on. Burton has already begun working with physiotherapy on his handicaps in his foster home. He will likely need this long-term. Nothing is known about Burton's past. In his foster home, he shows himself as an absolutely easy-to-care-for cuddle bear, who would rather be stroked all over. He can already stay alone very well, gets along well with the other dogs in the foster home, and even car rides are no problem for him. He already walks well on a leash and is learning the first basic commands. For Burton, we wish for an easy-to-navigate home with a garden, as he cannot walk up stairs well due to his handicap and also finds longer walks difficult. Children, dogs, or cats can also live in his new home. Children should be sturdy, however, as Burton sometimes forgets his own weight or strength. Our Burton is pure joy and is looking for people who are just as cheerful and who don't mind his handicap. He is an absolute enrichment for any family. Burton is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He brings his EU pet passport with him and can be adopted after a positive match. Are you falling in love with the handsome male dog and giving him a home? Many thanks, Silvie S.! You have named Burton! A big thank you also goes to Sandra B., who took on a monthly sponsorship for Burton. Thank you also, Britta Sch.! You are also supporting Burton with a monthly sponsorship! As of: 08.12.

About Burton

What life with Burton looks like

Burton is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Burton, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Burton?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Burton on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Burton if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Burton already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Burton isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Burton and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
