adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Buster can move directly into his own home! His story: Fantanele, Romania. If kindness had a name, it would be Buster! For our approximately 5-year-old Buster, he belongs to those dogs where the phenomenon occurs that they love humans the most despite the unimaginable suffering inflicted upon them. Our animal rescuers were met with a horrific sight when they discovered Buster severely injured. His snout was wrapped in brutal wire and his right hind leg was amputated. It is absolutely unfathomable that someone could inflict such cruelty on an innocent creature and then discard it without any compassion. Despite the unfortunate amputation of his hind leg and the prominent scar on his snout, Buster exudes an unbridled zest for life. The clingy male dog loves nothing more than being stroked and receiving attention. Moreover, he moves about despite his handicap and happily leads his fine snout on walks. It is clear that three-legged dogs are, above all, dogs! For the approximately 52 cm tall and 24 kg heavy ray of a dog, who likely has a herding breed in his ancestry, we are looking for people who can and want to deal intensively with the special needs and challenges of Buster. Regular visits to a physiotherapist should also be prepared by his new favorite people to ensure that he continues to lead a pain-free life. A rural, preferably flat home with an enclosed garden where he can move according to his needs would be a perfect well-being place for him. Since Buster has spent his life on the streets so far, the big snout ABC is still not familiar to him. With much patience, empathy, and positive training, however, he will surely learn everything quickly that a beloved family dog must know. Buster has shown himself to be very social and compatible with his fellow animals. Whether this also applies to cats, we cannot say at this point. The brown fur of the sweet curly-haired dachshund will regrow completely at the shaved spot. Due to his shortened tail, he cannot be rehomed to Switzerland. Apart from that, he is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and free of fleas. He possesses an EU pet passport and can be rehomed after a successful application. We are pressing our fingers so hard for Buster that he finds wonderful people who fall in love with him precisely because he is the way he is – imperfect and yet perfect! A suitable foster home would also be a dream and the start of a new life. We heartily thank Mattes T. for naming Buster. We also extend a big thank you to Margot H. and Melanie S., who both took on a monthly sponsorship for Buster.

About Buster

What life with Buster looks like

Buster is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Buster, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Buster?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Buster on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Buster if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Buster already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Buster isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Buster and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
