Byczek

Mixed Breed · Male

Availability: Byczek is a large dog, a bull type mix. He was found near an animal shelter. His former caregiver provided him with a short leash, a harness, and a muzzle. The muzzle and harness seem to be not random tools. We suspect the dog was abandoned because he started causing problems that his former caregiver could not handle. Byczek was known in the first months of his stay at the animal shelter as an unapproachable dog, growling and scaring everyone who passed by his kennel. He made it clear to all of us that we should go away. Our animal behaviorist started working with him and continues to do so. Under her guidance and support, Byczek allows us to get to know him. At this moment, the dog is becoming more trusting and opening up to another person. As his name suggests, he is a large and strong dog. He can pull strongly on the leash. Walks with him have become more pleasant lately, the dog is becoming more relaxed, thus pulling less and paying more attention to sniffing and observing the environment. However, the future caregiver must have a lot of strength to be able to keep Byk on the leash in any conditions. One of the problems that brought the dog to the animal shelter was the desire to mate with a person, specifically his leg. In moments of excitement, he would run to a person and start humping - this was his way of trying to cope with a situation too difficult for him, and humping had a stress-relieving aspect. For now, thanks to behavioral work, Byczek has less need to display this behavior, instead he more often rolls in the grass or chews sticks. We are very happy about this change. Interactions with other dogs vary, depending on how other dogs react to him. Sometimes he reacts negatively to other dogs, pulling away and threatening, and sometimes he can completely ignore a dog. For Byczek, we are looking for a home: - warm but consistent in handling the dog - willing to continue meetings with a behaviorist/trainer - no children - no other animals - experience in owning a dog of the TTB type will be helpful - in a quiet area, without excessive urban stimuli.

Usposobienie: Byczek to duży pies, mieszanka psa w typie bull. Dla Byczka szukamy domu: – ciepłego lecz konsekwentnego w prowadzaniu psa – chętnego do kontynuacji spotkań z behawiorystą/ trenerem – bez dzieci – bez innych zwierząt – doświadczenie w posiadaniu psa w typie TTB będzie pomocne – w spokojnej okolicy, bez nadmiaru miejskich bodźców.

About Byczek

What life with Byczek looks like

Byczek is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Byczek, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Byczek?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Byczek on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Byczek if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Byczek already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Byczek isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Byczek and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
