Adopt Cacao

Mixed Breed Cat · Male · Kitten

Description Our animal rescuers report: the exceptionally beautiful tomcat Cacao was born and raised on a dreary courtyard, with minimal and negative contact with people. He was unfortunately only fed irregularly, about every two days, with very poor quality food or diluted milk. The people on the courtyard were generally hostile towards animals, which explains Cacao's current reticence towards humans. Cacao was half-wild at the time of his rescue and would not accept humans, preferring to live hidden away. An animal rescuer took the handsome-shoed tomcat into foster care. Cacao still does not play there, showing no interest in toys like balls or feather toys; this likely stems from stress and a lack of early experiences. Fellow animals still primarily view Cacao as competitors, a resource-based behavior from his earlier environment. However, Cacao currently behaves neutrally towards a tomcat in the foster family, living in the same room without interaction. All tests for diseases are now negative; Cacao was FCov-positive at the time of his castration on April 6, 2026, received GS-treatment for two weeks, and was subsequently fully tested negative. Cacao is still in survival mode, trust-building has just begun (as of April 2026). He requires very patient people who give him time to settle in and do not place any expectations on him. 💙Who gives Cacao a chance at security, care, and a stable and peaceful home? Update May 12, 2026: new videos. Cacao begins curiously exploring the entire foster home and has played with a toy for the first time. Please note:

About Cacao

What life with Cacao looks like

Cacao is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat cat waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cacao, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cacao?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cacao on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cacao if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cacao already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cacao isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cacao and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
