Adopt Calimero

Bichon Frisé · Unknown · Adult · 7 years

Little fighters with a handicap also want to be loved ❤️ Calimero doesn't want to share his people and is searching for a home as a solo prince 🙏 a name that fits him so well. Small, gentle – and yet a big fighter. Calimero is about 6–7 years old, vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. A small Bichon Frise with just 6 kg. His hind legs are unfortunately paralyzed, but he still wants to and shows this during his physiotherapy. What happened to him in his earlier life in Romania, we do not know. But one can see it in his eyes: he has seen a lot – and yet, he has not lost his big heart. Calimero crawls into his people's hearts as if he is afraid of being lost again. "Please hold me tight. Don't let me be alone again."! With his little rollie, he goes for walks, bravely, proudly, full of life ❤️ He is happy with every touch, every loving word, every moment of attention. At home, he wears a Pampers – outside, he goes potty on command with a little pressure on his tummy. He doesn't mind. He doesn't complain. He takes everything as long as he is loved. ❤️ What he needs is not perfection. He needs people with hearts. People who don't see his handicap as a burden but as part of his story. Calimero needs love. Lots of love. And he wishes for his people to be his own. No long-term demands. No "perfect." Just warmth. Patience. Affection. 🙏 We know that Rolly-dogs have it especially hard. We know how often they are overlooked 😰 But all he wants is to finally be loved – just as he is. Please… who looks into this little face and says: "You are not too much. You are just right." Will you give Calimero his happy ending? ❤️🐾 Frau Buchholz (Mo-Fr from 11-18) Tel.: display: none !important; .lSSlideOuter .lSPager.lSGallery {

❤️🐾 Frau Buchholz ( Mo-Fr von 11-18 Uhr) Tel.: display: none !important; .lSSlideOuter .lSPager.lSGallery { jQuery(document).ready(function() { // Ensure lightGallery is available on jQuery if (typeof lightGallery !== 'undefined' && !jQuery.fn.lightGallery) { jQuery.fn.lightGallery = lightGallery; var setting_download = ''; jQuery('-gwl-img-gallery5231').lightSlider({ slideEndAnimation: true, onSliderLoad: function(el) { jQuery('-gwl-img-gallery5231').removeClass('cS-hidden'); jQuery('-gwl-img-gallery5231').addClass('gwts-loaded'); var lithbox = jQuery('-gwl-img-gallery5231').attr("data-litebx"); var galleryElement = jQuery('-gwl-img-gallery5231'); var galleryItems = galleryElement.find('.lslide'); if(galleryElement.length > 0 && galleryItems.length > 0 && typeof jQuery.fn.lightGallery !== 'undefined'){ galleryElement.lightGallery({ download: setting_download, selector: '-gwl-img-gallery5231 li'

About Calimero

What life with Calimero looks like

Calimero is a small adult bichon frisé dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Porz in Köln.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Calimero, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Calimero?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Porz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Calimero on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Calimero if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Porz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Calimero already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Calimero isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Porz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Calimero and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
