adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Calvin has found his own home! His story: With the lively Calvin, every day will be special – we are sure of it! We do not know from which sibling in his family tree he inherited his striking black-and-white curly hair and the frizzy fur on his head. But this makes him all the more unique and beautiful. When he blinks his friendly brown eyes through the fluffy facial strands, his gaze goes straight to the heart. Since mid-November, the little rascal has been living in his foster home in Germany. He has a personality that simply captivates. Calvin is interested, open, and a little charmer who loves people and their cuddles. The little adventurer is extremely curious, friendly, and cheerful and will definitely be a wonderful companion with his open nature. Inside him lies a huge portion of love and joy. Play, play, and cuddle – and he especially loves to do this with his foster family and the existing first dogs that surround him. Calvin has already warmed up to the leash, so he can go out. He already walks well on a leash, at least as far as his little legs can carry him. House training is in progress, and much can be learned from the first dogs. It is likely that he will grow a bit bigger when he is fully grown. However, Calvin still needs a lot of support from his future people on the way to becoming a big dog. There is a lot to learn in everyday life and with the big dog ABC. It is important that his trusted people have enough time, because puppies should not be left alone for long periods in the first year. A training in a good dog training class could be particularly beneficial for Calvin during his puberty phase, as he needs additional guidance and orientation during this time. An active home that offers him plenty of closeness, regularly challenges his mind, and provides him with enough space to run would be the absolute jackpot for him. Ideally, their future people should have plenty of space and a fenced yard. Originally, Calvin came from Cluj, Romania. There, he was likely abandoned near a busy street with his six siblings, Lupine, Lasse, Efendi, Hektor, Ouzo, and Krümel. Fortunately, the puppies received help and found temporary shelter in a Romanian foster home. There, he also lived with cats. About Calvin

What life with Calvin looks like

Calvin is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Calvin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Calvin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Calvin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Calvin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Calvin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Calvin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Calvin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
