Camelo

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

Breed: Mix. Gender: Male. Date of birth: August 2022. Height: 55 cm. Weight: 22 kgIn a shelter from: December 2022 Family in the shelter: Sister: Heda; At the end of December 2022, Heda and her brother Camelo were left in the hallway outside the apartment of one of our employees. When she opened her door that morning to go to work, she found the two of them curled up closely together, sleeping peacefully. She couldn’t leave them there. She brought them straight to our shelter, where our veterinary team examined them and made sure they were warm, safe, and well cared for. We were so happy to have found our two little “Christmas presents” before the cold winter days could harm them. Once they had received all the necessary medical care, Heda and Camelo joined one of our puppy groups, where they could finally run, play, and enjoy the company of other dogs. Camelo has a small deformity on his nose, most likely congenital. Thankfully, it causes him no health problems at all and has simply become his little trademark. Together with Heda, he has grown up at our shelter, but almost four years have now passed. Four years is far too long for a dog to wait for a family of his own. Camelo deserves to know what it feels like to have a home, a soft bed, a person who calls him their own, and a family to grow old with.

About Camelo

What life with Camelo looks like

Camelo is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Rescue Bosnia in Bosnia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇦Adopting from Bosnia and Herzegovina

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Camelo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Camelo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Rescue Bosnia handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Camelo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Camelo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Rescue Bosnia will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Camelo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Camelo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Rescue Bosnia early rather than rehoming privately; they know Camelo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
