Adopt Captain Hook

British Shorthair · Male · Adult · 5 years

- friendly and cuddly - house-trained - needs a quiet home without young children or dogs Our little Captain Hook (named after his very prominent fang) came into our care as a result of an animal hoarding case. Now we are searching for a loving home for the little guy. Although Captain Hook has already gone through a lot, he was never fearful; instead, he greeted our animal caregivers with friendliness from the start. The brave little guy loves to have his fluffy fur scratched and to relax on a cozy scratching post. He also gets along well with other cats. A quiet home without young children or dogs is a must for Captain Hook. Due to kidney problems, he receives special food, which he takes easily.

About Captain Hook

What life with Captain Hook looks like

Captain Hook is a small adult british shorthair cat waiting at Hamburger Tierschutzverein in Hamburg.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Captain Hook, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Captain Hook?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hamburger Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Captain Hook on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Captain Hook if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hamburger Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Captain Hook already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Captain Hook isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hamburger Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Captain Hook and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
