Captain

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 6 months

adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Captain has found his home! His story: The scruffy puppy Captain was found alone and stray on the street with his brother Colin. Unfortunately, we do not know where he came from or what he has already experienced. However, we can say with certainty that Captain is an extremely playful and loving dog who is very happy about treats and human interaction. Captain is charming with his beautiful gray-white and scruffy, soft fur and his lively nature. Unlike his brother, Captain is a bit more calm, sometimes likes to retreat, and take a rest. Due to his current age of approximately 8 months and his appearance, it is assumed that Captain is a mix of a herding dog. Captain may also exhibit working-dog-like characteristics. Herding dogs are confident, enduring, and obedient dogs who like to be active. Therefore, potential future owners should already be familiar with the idiosyncrasies of these breeds or ideally have their own experience with herding dog husbandry. We are looking for responsible and dog-experienced adopters for Captain who will give him the time to settle into his family at his own pace. He wishes for a family that lives as rural as possible, ideally with a large garden where Captain can move freely. Captain travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated with an EU pet passport to his new home. An experienced foster home would also be a wonderful opportunity for Captain to get a warm spot and come a little closer to his family. We thank the namingsponsor Rebecca H. for giving Captain a name and thus a personal identity. As of: 12.10. This is a young, adolescent dog.

Stand: 12.10.2024

About Captain

What life with Captain looks like

Captain is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Captain, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Captain?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Captain on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Captain if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Captain already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Captain isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Captain and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
