Caracol

Spanish Mastiff · Male · Young · 2 years

Date of Birth: 12/07/2024. Size: Medium (26 Kg). In Cuencanimal since: 07/2025. Other Information: Good and very noble. Character: Caracol is a large mixed breed on the outside, but with an even bigger heart inside. His story hasn't been easy: he appeared abandoned in a village, very thin and with a large wound on his body. With care and affection, that wound healed, his fur grew back, and today he looks beautiful, with a gaze that reflects nobility and a desire to trust. He is a shy dog at first, but behind that shyness hides a gentle soul that only needs time, patience, and love to show everything he has inside. He learned to trust the person who fed him, especially when he saw her accompanied by her little dog; this tells us that Caracol feels more secure in the company of another balanced dog that can serve as support and guidance. He is still a bit wary of cars, even though we had to carry him to travel, but he lets it happen without problems. In quiet areas and parks, he walks very well, crossing paths with people, dogs, and cars without getting stuck. Caracol is waiting for that home where, finally, he can feel safe and loved forever. He gets along well with males and females, and during walks, he never shows fear or reaction to dogs that bark at him from behind fences. When new people arrive at the animal rescue association, he barks from a distance, but if they don't force him and the pack approaches first, he gradually relaxes and eventually approaches as well. History: A puppy who "appears" scared and alone in a village, luckily there are good people who don't look away and seek solutions. Current Status: Caracol needs a special family, someone who understands that his trust is earned with calm and respect, that his nobility deserves to be discovered step by step. In return, he will give the loyalty and sweetness of a dog who has already experienced suffering and is ready to start anew.

About Caracol

What life with Caracol looks like

Caracol is a medium-sized young adult spanish mastiff dog waiting at CuencAnimal in Spain.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Caracol, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Caracol?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. CuencAnimal handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Caracol on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Caracol if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — CuencAnimal will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Caracol already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Caracol isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with CuencAnimal early rather than rehoming privately; they know Caracol and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
