Carioca

Female · Adult · 7 years

November 1, 2024: In mid-October 2024, we were on team tour again. Four days long, we were accompanied by dedicated team members who wanted to meet our partners and the dogs and cats. One of our stops was at Canile Arzachena, where there were several new arrivals in addition to the already familiar animals. So, we also reacquainted ourselves with the female dog Carioca, who shares a pen with the hunting dog Barth. The pretty female dog has now lost most of her shyness and even rolled onto her back to enjoy having her belly stroked. This was a very moving moment for us, especially since she had kept her distance during our last visit. We are very happy that she is now making good experiences with people at Canile and is ready for a suitable home. Will you become a foster home and help pave the way for a better future for Carioca? Or give Carioca a home where she can find security with patience and affection and finally lead a happy life? August 31, 2025: A team colleague and her daughter sacrificed some of their vacation time to personally meet or see some of the shelter animals. They also met Carioca. Carioca is a friendly, loving, and gentle female dog. At first, she was reserved and more submissive, but she still allowed herself to be stroked and enjoyed the affection. One can sense that she has a delicate, cautious heart that simply wants to be won over gently. With patience and love, Carioca will become a faithful companion who can find her place in life with gratitude. Would you give Carioca the chance at this happiness? If you are currently looking for a new furry family member and are aware that adoption means not only a lot of joy but also work and great responsibility, then we look forward to your message. We provide foster care services nationwide.

About Carioca

What life with Carioca looks like

Carioca is a large adult dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Carioca, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Carioca?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Carioca on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Carioca if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Carioca already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Carioca isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Carioca and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
