Adopt Carlo

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

♂, born approx. 01/2026 puppy-like – friendly – social In Bulgaria, Carlo is a male mixed-breed dog born around January 2026, who will likely grow to be medium to large-sized. Carlo is a young male mixed-breed dog who has only just begun exploring the world beyond his previous environment. He and his sisters Jodie, Jeanie, and Kelly were rescued from a hoarder household—a difficult start to life that leaves its marks and especially highlights how crucial safety, structure, and dependable people are for him. Today, Carlo is safe and finally getting the chance at a normal dog’s life. There’s still much he needs to learn that other dogs take for granted: everyday sounds, new environments, walks, meeting strangers, and unfamiliar situations. He needs time to build trust and understand that he can rely on his trusted people. With patience, clear routines, and loving yet consistent guidance, Carlo will gradually become more confident and increasingly open up. What’s essential is a home that doesn’t overwhelm Carlo, but instead provides orientation: consistent routines, calm leadership, and people who enjoy showing a young dog the ways of the world. This also includes quiet rest periods, gentle training, and slowly building skills like being left alone, walking nicely on a leash, and relaxed behavior indoors. Carlo hopes for people who understand that development takes time—with small steps forward, occasional uncertainties, but above all, the opportunity to form a close bond. Anyone who gives Carlo this chance will gain a sensitive companion who grows more trusting each day and can blossom into a wonderful family dog. Carlo will be rehomed vaccinated and microchipped. He is still too young for the Snap 4-D test and neutering. He is located just outside Sofia/Bulgaria. The adoption fee for Carlo is 480 euros. Do you have a suitable home for Carlo? About Carlo

What life with Carlo looks like

Carlo is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. in Berlin.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Carlo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Carlo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Carlo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Carlo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Carlo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Carlo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Carlo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
