Carlos

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Our animal welfare workers report: Carlos is adorable! The little guy on his short legs conquers the hearts of our caretakers in a storm. Carlos was found together with his dog buddy Luke2 near the shelter, where they were likely abandoned, as they appeared one day without warning. It was bitterly cold, but they were so full of fear that it took several days for Oana to secure them and bring them to the shelter. We don't know what they've experienced so far, but a friendly, human hand was something they hadn't known until now. Carlos is now somewhat thawed out and is overjoyed when caretakers come to his pen. The grin is written all over his face, and his tail wags incessantly, but he's still unsure, going by the motto: "Should I go? Should I not? Should I?" Carlos has to learn first that we only want good for him and that being touched or cuddled is something nice. He shows no aggressive behavior but retreats to his hut when it gets too much for him. His dog buddy Luke (whom we'll also introduce shortly) is, on the other hand, extremely shy and would prefer to dissolve into thin air in human proximity. The two are very fixated on each other, and although we know it's probably impossible, we hope for a shared home for the two. Since this is likely very difficult, we are also placing them separately. We are now looking for experienced, very patient people who have the time and patience to show Carlos the beautiful sides of dog life without pressure and compulsion but with lots of love. Because he also has to get used to the leash and the harness. We hope that such wonderful people exist who would give Carlos (and maybe also Luke) a chance at a forever home. Update 13.02.2025: new pictures, new video. Carlos now enjoys walking very much in a quiet environment. A heart murmur was diagnosed in Carlos, which is now being further clarified by a veterinarian. 17.12.2024: new pictures. New videos. In September 2024, Carlos traveled to a foster home. Carlos is slowly getting used to the everyday life at his caring foster home in Bad Belzig. 21.07.2024: new photos (together with the wonderful Flower) 27.05.2024: new videos 14.05.2024: new videos (with Flower and Luke) We are now looking for experienced, very patient people who have the time and patience to show Carlos the beautiful sides of dog life without pressure and compulsion but with lots of love. Update13.02.2025 neue Bilder, neues Video. About Carlos

What life with Carlos looks like

Carlos is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Carlos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Carlos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Carlos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Carlos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Carlos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Carlos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Carlos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
