Adopt Cava

Podenco · Male · Adult · 4 years

Cava entered the animal shelter as a puppy on January 1, 2022. Despite being such a good dog, he has had very bad luck with his adoptions, being adopted and returned twice. The first time, he was adopted here in Sevilla when he was three months old. A week later, the family returned him because Cava cried when left alone (we found out that he was left alone practically all day and night). Months later, a Belgian association found a family for him and his brother, and he lived there for about six months until Cava and his brother had a fight, and during the fight, Cava bit the woman when she got involved, so they said that Cava had to go. The association didn't have foster care homes there, and so Cava had to return to our animal shelter, making a long journey back. This doesn't mean that Cava is aggressive, not at all; he has never had a bad reaction towards people. Cava had a very hard time at first, so his next family has to be the permanent one; he can't go through another abandonment… Would you consider meeting him?

¿Te animas a conocerle?

About Cava

What life with Cava looks like

Cava is a large adult podenco dog waiting at UPRODEA (Unión Protectora de Animales) in Spain.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cava, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cava?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. UPRODEA (Unión Protectora de Animales) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cava on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cava if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — UPRODEA (Unión Protectora de Animales) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cava already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cava isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with UPRODEA (Unión Protectora de Animales) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cava and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
