Charco

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Date of Birth: 01/04/2019. Size: Medium (23 Kg). In Cuencanimal since: 04/2021. Other Information: Very noble and good. Sponsored by Sylvia and Máximo (Cuenca). Character: Charco needed time to adapt and we wanted to give him time to know the best version of himself. When he arrived, he was terrified, he was afraid of being spoken to or establishing eye contact, so we were very, very gentle with him, slow movements, always respecting his space, little by little we started to speak to him sweetly, we left him treats… slowly he understood that we didn't want to harm him. Currently, Charco still gets scared by loud noises, but now when he's scared, we speak to him sweetly and he feels comforted. He doesn't trust strangers, but when you get to know him, you can fall in love with his endearing gestures, he jumps on you, licks you, looks at you with his eyes, we love him with all our heart. On the leash, he does very well, sometimes he gets scared during walks and at that moment he looks for you and sticks to you (due to his fears, we always used escape-prevention measures like double leashes). It's very hard to convey in words how beautiful Charco is, the tenderness he exudes, the noble and good gaze, the overwhelming feelings of joy when sharing quality moments with him… we adore Charco. It's a pleasure to see him relate to his peers, he's a fantastic dog, always seeks to mediate for good vibes, he's sociable with everyone and has moments of being playful, but he's selective when choosing playmates. With his favorite people, he's pure love, with strangers he doesn't want to engage, you need to dedicate time and respectful attention to connect and develop a bond. About Charco

What life with Charco looks like

Charco is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at CuencAnimal in Spain.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Charco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Charco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. CuencAnimal handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Charco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Charco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — CuencAnimal will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Charco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Charco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with CuencAnimal early rather than rehoming privately; they know Charco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
