Charles

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 13 years

Charles is a 13-year-old cat who is finally looking for his big break: a home of his own with people who love and spoil him - all to himself. Charles lived for many years with an elderly, sick lady in a pure apartment situation. He had been having massive problems with his ears for a long time, which unfortunately could not be treated adequately. When Charles came to us on July 8, 2026, it was therefore quickly clear that he urgently needed help. A severely damaged ear had to be operated on. After his operation, Charles was allowed to move in with a loving foster family. There he was cared for, nurtured and above all allowed to experience how beautiful a cat's life can be when you feel safe and secure. And Charles has taken this chance: He has really blossomed! From the initially troubled cat, an incredibly loving, clingy and cuddly cat gentleman has become. Charles loves his people, enjoys every caress and likes to seek out closeness. If you are looking for a cozy cuddly cat, you are exactly right with him. However, Charles has also made one thing very clear: he doesn't need other cats. The more at ease he felt, the more confident he showed that he doesn't necessarily consider his four-legged roommates an enrichment. The foster family really tried to integrate him into the cat group - unfortunately without success. Charles would rather not share his home with cats in the future. With dogs, however, things are quite different: he gets along well with the two small dogs of his foster family and has no problem with them at all. That's why we are looking for a home for Charles where he can be the undisputed prince as a single cat. People who have a lot of time for him, enjoy his closeness and want to give him a quiet and loving old age after everything he has been through. Charles has had to go through a lot in his life so far. It would be all the more beautiful if he could now experience what it's like to really have arrived. Just write to us. As soon as we receive your message, we will contact you as soon as possible. Please understand that we can't always respond immediately. Please give us one to two days for a response.

About Charles

What life with Charles looks like

Charles is a large senior mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutz Euskirchen e.V. in Germany.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Charles, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Charles?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Euskirchen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Charles on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Charles if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Euskirchen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Charles already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Charles isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Euskirchen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Charles and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
