Charlie

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Charlie is a smart tuxedo fellow who is approximately 4 years old and now looking for a home of his own. He recently came in to foster care having been fed as a stray by kind people who unfortunately could not keep him and has since been settling in and is starting to appreciate his home comforts. He is a friendly boy who likes to be near his human all the time, and his fosterer says that he does sleep on her bed. You can see him enjoying a chin rub in the video! He has nipped a few times, but this may well be due to stress as she has other cats. He is easy to pick up but is not a lap cat. Charlie does love his food! He is litter-trained although he does need a high-sided or large litter tray. Charlie would appreciate a home where he is the only cat and king of his domain, preferably with access to a secure garden/safe outside space. Technical bits: Charlie is FIV positive. He has been neutered and microchipped and will be fully vaccinated. He will go home with 5 weeks free pet insurance. If you would like to offer handsome Charlie a fresh start and loving home please download the adoption form or email us.

About Charlie

What life with Charlie looks like

Charlie is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at The Cats Whiskers Rescue (East Herts) in United Kingdom.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Charlie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Charlie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Cats Whiskers Rescue (East Herts) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Charlie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Charlie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Cats Whiskers Rescue (East Herts) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Charlie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Charlie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Cats Whiskers Rescue (East Herts) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Charlie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
