Adopt Charlie

Male · Young · 2 years

Background Our beautiful boy Charlie has been let down again and again and is back in kennels waiting for someone who can offer him the home he needs and deserves. He doesn’t understand why yet again, for the third time in his short life, he has been abandoned and finds himself living in kennels, without anyone to love him. In 2023 we saved Charlie just hours before he was due to be euthanised. His owner at the time did not want to keep him and tried to reach out to the rescue where he originally came from, but they wouldn’t take him back and refused to help. We found out about him by coincidence and felt heartbroken when we heard his story and the banal reason why his life was at risk, so we decided to step in. Charlie spent several months in kennels, and then someone finally was willing to give him a fair chance. It was the perfect home for him, and he has made incredible progress with his latest owner, but due to unfortunate unexpected circumstances in the family Charlie was sadly returned to us in the beginning of 2024. Unlike his previous rescue, we don’t want to let Charlie down because this beautiful sweet boy has done nothing wrong and he deserves a happy ending, but we were unable to find a foster home/adopter for him and had to place him in kennels again. Likes Charlie is an absolute stunner, he is very food motivated and extremely clever when it comes to training and can do so many tricks. He loves long walks and genereally walks very well on the lead. He is very loving to the people he is confident with and really tries his very best to please. Charlie is fully house trained and a bit of a couch potatoe at home where he loves to spend time chilling with his hooman. Dislikes and issues Charlie is anxious when he is overcrowded by people and dogs and can pull when his reactivity is triggered. He does have canine best friends, but can be anxious around certain large dogs. He doesn’t seem to like hats on men and he is nervous around smaller children. He has made amazing progress since we saved him but he still needs someone willing and able to continue building up his confidence in people and other dogs. Ideal Home Charlie needs an adult only home, with someone who is experienced with lare dogs and physically strong enough to handle a big boy like him (30-35kg). He can be homed with a docile resident dog, although ideally he would be an only dog. He is a sight-hound mix which explains his strong prey drive and preferably he would live without other small animals in the home, or with the option to keep them separate and slowly train mutual acceptance. Vaccinated, neutered and microchipped.

About Charlie

What life with Charlie looks like

Charlie is a large young adult dog waiting at Strays Without Borders in Skopje.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇲🇰Adopting from North Macedonia

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Charlie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Charlie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Strays Without Borders handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Charlie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Charlie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Strays Without Borders will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Charlie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Charlie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Strays Without Borders early rather than rehoming privately; they know Charlie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
