Charly

Unknown · Young · 2 years

What we can report about Charly How did Charly end up in the animal shelter? After the unexpected death of Charly's owner and none of the relatives wanting to take him, he was brought to the animal shelter Dachau by a service dog handler and has been staying there since. How is Charly currently behaving in the animal shelter? In the animal shelter, Charly appears very distrustful and aggressive towards most caregivers. This is likely due to his former owner raising him not to allow himself to be touched by strangers; even close relatives could not put a leash on Charly. Currently, intensive trust-building training is being conducted with Charly, and the process of getting him accustomed to a muzzle has begun, with encouraging initial progress being observed. Update Charly 10.11.2024: After extensive training, Charly has shed his initially strong distrust of strangers, at least with his dog trainers, and now allows himself to be touched and leashed. Putting on the muzzle is now also problem-free, and Charly is participating in training with joy. December 2025 update: Charly's behavior has consistently improved over the past year. We are very pleased that he now also accepts and greets the caregivers cheerfully. During walks with his dog trainers or caregivers, he shows largely neutral behavior when encountering people and dogs. Charly loves all kinds of ball games and continues to participate in training with enthusiasm. Through the Christmas Angel campaign of "Rottweilerfreunde Deutschland," Charly's wish for a Fitbone Balance Pad for muscle building was fulfilled, and he will now be trained on it regularly. About Charly

What life with Charly looks like

Charly is a young adult dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Dachau e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Charly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Charly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Dachau e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Charly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Charly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Dachau e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Charly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Charly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Dachau e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Charly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
