Charly

Mixed Breed · Male

Charly originally comes from abroad, but unfortunately, the family was not given further assistance by the mediating association when problems arose, and so he came to us at the our shelter. Here, he shows himself to be quite approachable and friendly with most people. There are only one or two individuals he does not get along with, an issue that also showed up in his family. If something or someone does not suit him, he clearly indicates this through body language. He is very happy to see his trusted people and gladly accepts affection from them. The young male dog enjoys long walks with us, and he also likes being accompanied by other four-legged friends. He is a pleasant companion, but he can sometimes tend to bark at the leash during certain dog encounters. However, with clear and confident handling and preventive action, this is not a problem and can be prevented in advance. Typical for dogs from abroad, where it is often necessary for survival, Charly is not always willing to compromise in certain situations and likes to make decisions about the conditions under which he does something. For example, he wants to have his sleeping place for himself and decide when he allows affection. After building a trust relationship, work should definitely continue, ideally with the involvement of a trainer. Clear structures and routines, which he can orient himself by, are very important in his new home. It should not be too turbulent there. We cannot imagine children in the home with Charly. He is mostly quite compatible with other dogs, so confident fellow animals could be considered. Whether he can live with cats and/or small animals, we do not know. His people should already have experience with dogs and be able to read the dog's body language. Charly is still young, and there is still work to be done on his "small construction sites," as he has real potential to become a wonderful companion. Charly is familiar with the muzzle and wears it without any issues in certain situations. If you are interested, we look forward to a meaningful email with your phone number.

DE·Show original

About Charly

What life with Charly looks like

Charly is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Troisdorf in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Charly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Charly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Troisdorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Charly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Charly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Troisdorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Charly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Charly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Troisdorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Charly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
