adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! It is said that names are no coincidence, and in Chaval's case, this seems particularly true. The name is affectionately used in the southern European region to mean a "smart guy," and that's exactly what he is! With his wild, standing collar of fur and his deep, bright eyes, he looks like a little adventurer waiting to discover the world by his people's side. After his rescue from the public shelter in Zalau, Chaval has undergone an impressive transformation. From the initially reserved dog, he has become a confident, playful, and visibly content companion. He enjoys cuddles very much, meets strangers without fear, and has even completely overcome his initial fear of the leash. One can tell from this approximately 53 cm tall and 21 kg heavy male dog that he is a keen observer. He notices precisely what is happening around him, yet exudes a pleasant, balanced calm. One might assume, due to his smart nature, that a little herder in his ancestry might be mixed in, but that is mere speculation. What is certain is that Chaval is a clever head that loves to learn and seeks a close bond with his people. As he desires mental stimulation and we do not know if he is familiar with life in a home, we are looking for people with some dog experience for him. A shared visit to the dog training classes would be ideal for him to reinforce the dog basics and playfully discover what kind of mental stimulation brings you the most joy. His love for treats can be a clear relief in his training. The handsome fellow gets along well with his fellow animals at the shelter, so he would also make a good second dog. Whether he gets along with cats, we have not yet been able to test. Chaval has already packed his bags. He is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. He also brings his EU pet passport. Stand: 30.04. Many thanks to Claudia D., you not only gave Chaval an extremely fitting name but also an identity.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! About Chaval

What life with Chaval looks like

Chaval is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chaval, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chaval?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chaval on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chaval if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chaval already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chaval isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chaval and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
