Sommige honden hebben tijd nodig om te ontdekken dat de wereld ook veilig kan zijn. Cherry is zo'n hond. Cherry kwam op een leeftijd van ongeveer 7 à 8 maanden vanuit Roemenië naar Nederland, waar ze een thuis vond. In het begin was ze erg angstig, maar met training, begeleiding en geduld zag haar baasje al snel mooie vooruitgang. Helaas heeft Cherry tijdens een wandeling een nare aanvaring gehad met een andere hond. Sindsdien ervaart ze veel spanning tijdens wandelingen in de wijk en schieten haar borstels direct overeind zodra ze zich onveilig voelt. Wandelingen in een rustige, natuurlijke omgeving gingen daarentegen juist erg goed en daar kon ze zichtbaar meer ontspannen. Ook vreemde mensen en bezoek ontvangen heeft Cherry altijd erg moeilijk gevonden. Ondanks alle inzet is het niet gelukt om haar hierin voldoende rust en vertrouwen te geven, waarna besloten is dat zij via ons verder begeleid zou worden. Bij ons leren we Cherry steeds beter kennen. We zien niet alleen een gevoelige hond, maar ook een dame met karakter. Ze heeft tijd nodig om nieuwe mensen en een nieuwe omgeving te leren kennen, maar laat ook duidelijk zien wat ze prettig vindt en waar haar grenzen liggen. We geven haar de ruimte om in haar eigen tempo vertrouwen op te bouwen en begeleiden haar waar nodig. Tegelijkertijd helpen we haar om meer ontspanning te vinden en beter om te gaan met spanning en prikkels. Achter haar sterke persoonlijkheid schuilt een hond die graag samenwerkt, mits zij zich veilig voelt en weet waar ze aan toe is. Voor Cherry zoeken we mensen die haar karakter kunnen waarderen én begrijpen. Mensen die haar rust, duidelijkheid en consequente begeleiding bieden, haar grenzen respecteren en haar tegelijkertijd helpen om stap voor stap meer vertrouwen te krijgen in de wereld om haar heen.
