Adopt Chica

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 9 years

Chica (nr. 23122) is a black-and-white cat nearly 10 years old. She was brought to the animal shelter because her owner had too little time for the cat and she therefore spent too much time alone. Chica is easy to pick up and actually seems to like everything. She is a true everyone's cat who loves being around people and being petted. She also gets along well with children. It is not known whether she can get along with dogs, as she has never been in contact with them. Chica is used to a house with a garden. She did not spend much time in the garden and has never gone beyond the garden. She is not really a lap cat, coming up on laps only occasionally. Chica likes to be close by so she can be petted. She is also used to another cat, Lola, with whom she was brought to the animal shelter. Lola and Chica accept each other but do not seek each other out. Therefore, they do not necessarily have to stay together. Chica is still not very long in the cat accommodation and needs to get used to it. She is a bit shy and also needs to get used to strangers. This will likely improve as she stays there longer. Her owner describes her as a sweet, easy-going cat.

About Chica

What life with Chica looks like

Chica is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Dierentehuis in Netherlands.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chica, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chica?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chica on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chica if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chica already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chica isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chica and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
