Adopt Chido

Belgian Malinois · Male · Senior · 9 years

Hello, I am Chido … a Malinois with heart, character, and an exciting history. I have learned a lot at the animal shelter and successfully passed my behavioral assessment. The veterinary office has also examined me – officially, I no longer have a muzzle or leash restriction. Nevertheless, I still wear a muzzle outside – for me, it’s routine and gives everyone involved a sense of security. What makes me unique is that I am a lively, clever dog with a loyal and playful side. I enjoy the company of my people, can be very polite and patient, and want to do everything right when I receive security and clarity. I am now more open to strangers, and my volunteers are pleased with my positive developments. In the café or in a quiet environment, I show my best side. I usually get along well with female dogs, and sometimes with neutered male dogs – it depends on the type. What I need to work on I am often stressed at the animal shelter and can appear loud, but I can be much more relaxed outside. I still react strongly to other dogs, joggers, or cyclists on the leash sometimes, even though I am making progress. I need clear, fair guidance and training without violence. My workload should be joint-friendly and meaningful as I age. Exercises like Tellington TTouch or physiotherapy are good for me and help me to relax. What I am looking for I wish for a quiet, rural home, preferably a house with a securely fenced garden (at least 1.60 meters high). Children do not suit me well, and city life would be too stressful for me. I feel most comfortable with dog-experienced people who are not afraid of muzzles, have a desire for joint mental stimulation with me, and give me structure, trust, and closeness. Then, I will become a loyal, reliable companion with heart and character. Curious? Then please contact my animal caretakers or fill out the form below. Please plan several visits to get to know me, so we can build trust.

About Chido

What life with Chido looks like

Chido is a large senior belgian malinois dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Requires muzzle wearing for safety, needs joint-friendly exercise due to age, requires behavioral training for leash reactivity

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chido, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chido?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chido on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chido if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chido already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chido isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chido and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
