Chloe

European Shorthair · Female · Adult · 4 years

Hi, I’m Chloe and I’m already five years old—old enough to decide for myself what I want to do each day. My former owners said I have a big ego, but of course that’s perfectly fine! Have you seen how gorgeous I am? And on top of that, I’m quite the diva—those types are often naturally stubborn. I’d love to be placed in a home where the owner understands that I’m the one who sets the rules. So no, don’t just start petting me if you feel like it—even if I come over and nudge my head against your leg. Anyway, I’m not a cuddly cat; if that’s what you’re looking for, you’ll have to keep searching elsewhere. If you don’t listen, you can expect a good swat—after all, I need to make it clear to my “staff” exactly what I expect from them. Still, I do enjoy being around my human and occasionally getting a quick scratch behind the ears. Otherwise, I often curl up on someone’s lap—especially in winter when the weather outside is miserable. Of course, I’d love to have the freedom to go outside whenever I feel like it—that’s only fair, right? One last thing: I definitely don’t want to go to the vet! And anyway, a carrier box as a mode of transport is simply beneath me—I’ll never step into one voluntarily.

About Chloe

What life with Chloe looks like

Chloe is a large adult european shorthair cat waiting at Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden in Leiden.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chloe, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chloe?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chloe on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chloe if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chloe already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chloe isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chloe and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
