Adopt Chocapic

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 8 years

Chocapic – mixed-breed male dog with playfulness seeks a place to settle down Chocapic is an approximately eight-year-old mixed-breed male dog currently living in our Spanish partner animal shelter. We know very little about his background. As is often the case, it remains unclear what he has experienced and why he ended up in the animal shelter. What we do see is a friendly dog who greatly enjoys mental stimulation and affection. In particular, ball playing has become a favorite for Chocapic. He shows a lot of joy in movement and interaction – a beautiful sign that he is mentally alert and enjoys being active. He gets along well with his fellow animals and has shown no behavioral issues so far. Older dogs often have it harder finding a home in animal protection. Many people specifically look for younger dogs – but there is actually no good reason for this. Older dogs often bring a bit more calmness, have grown out of the wild puppy age, and appreciate closeness, rituals, and shared time even more. They do not need a perfect adventure life, but rather reliability and affection. Since we do not know Chocapics training status, potential adopters should be prepared that he may still have some learning needs. Most importantly, he needs time to settle in and get used to a new life. For Chocapic, we wish for people who would give an older dog a chance. A home where he can finally belong, play, be loved, and simply be a dog. Chocapic is waiting. And he would have more than earned the right to spend his golden years not in the animal shelter, but with people who see him. Ideally, we are looking for a home for Chocapic. At this point, however, a foster home would also be a great help and a huge improvement for Chocapics life.

About Chocapic

What life with Chocapic looks like

Chocapic is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chocapic, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chocapic?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chocapic on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chocapic if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chocapic already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chocapic isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chocapic and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
