Adopt Choco

Dachshund · Male · Adult · 4 years

Choco – a beautiful Dachshund puppy The little Choco recently found himself unexpectantly in our partner shelter. He is a truly enchanting little fellow and absolutely no troublemaker. He cautiously and quietly explores his new, still unfamiliar surroundings and gratefully accepts every affection. At the moment, he looks a bit unhappy, but who can blame him in his situation. We know nothing about his background. It could be that he has yet to learn anything about puppy training and must still learn and understand everything from living in a house to going for walks on a leash. Choco is certainly ready for a new start and wishes to leave the animal shelter. A foster home has already been arranged for him, but of course, it would be nicer if he could go straight into his new home. Choco is a so-called Tiger Dachshund. While he does not generally belong to the so-called torture breeds, he is a carrier of the Merle gene. More information about this can be found on our information page. Prospective owners should familiarize themselves with this rather old breeding form, as well as the other basic needs of a Dachshund. We are now searching for a home for Choco where he won't have to climb stairs. He would surely appreciate a garden with permission to dig in certain areas. Choco's new humans should be familiar with the character traits of a Dachshund and like them – a 1a command receiver is not typical for a Dachshund. Do you have a wonderful and suitable home to offer for Choco? Then contact his mediator (preferably by email).

About Choco

What life with Choco looks like

Choco is a small adult dachshund dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Choco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Choco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Choco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Choco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Choco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Choco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Choco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
