Choko

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Choko, born 2023 and about 53 cm tall, is waiting with his brother Charly to finally be discovered by his humans. The two brothers came to Estera as young puppies after facing a sad fate. Estera immediately took them in to ensure they grew up safely. Their mother still lives in the area and is regularly seen. Choko is a friendly, gentle young male who takes a moment to consider new situations. He is a bit more reserved than his brother Charly, needs a moment to gain trust, but then shows a very loving and pleasant nature. He enjoys closeness and, when he feels safe, enjoys petting and the attention of his humans. He lives harmoniously in a dog group and shows good social compatibility. A confident first dog would be a nice orientation for him, but it's not a must. What Choko needs now is a family that gives him security, peace, and a loving environment. People who show him how beautiful a home can be and give him the time he needs to settle in. With his gentle and friendly nature, Choko brings wonderful prerequisites to become a loyal companion. He is not yet familiar with life in a house, and walking on a leash will be new for him. With patience, clear structures, and loving support, he will learn this quickly. A dog school could give him additional security and strengthen the bond. The two fluffy brothers have already spent a lot of time in the shelter and should not have to wait any longer. Therefore, we are looking for a foster home for Choko that serves as a stepping stone to a new life - or a forever home where he can arrive at his own pace. Choko is neutered and will be vaccinated, chipped, and relinquished with a protection contract after a positive preliminary inspection. General note on our protégés: Our dogs in Romania are regularly visited so we can reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us very much to convey a possible good picture of each individual dog. Nevertheless, we would like to point out that a dog in a new environment - with new people, new routines, and new impressions - can also behave differently. This is quite normal and is part of every change process. Many dogs open up faster at home and show sides that were not visible in the shelter. Our assessments are based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee for every behavior in the new environment. They are intended to provide orientation and show how the dog presents himself in the shelter - and what potential he has. We are convinced: With patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find his way and develop positively.

About Choko

What life with Choko looks like

Choko is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Choko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Choko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Choko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Choko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Choko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Choko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Choko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
