Chopper

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Chopper is not at the animal shelter. If you are interested, please contact us at the following email: Chopper is a very active and playful dog. He is cautious in new situations, but most of the time he is affectionate, likes to cuddle and loves being stroked on the elbow. He likes to burrow under blankets and stay there for a while. He also loves running over fields and swimming. Chopper gets along better with females than with males, but still has many male playmates. He is compatible with cats, and he loves children. Chopper is willing to learn, although you often have to be more consistent to get to the goal. He can be very impulsive and reactive when he sees other dogs. Chopper unfortunately has a fear of wind when it whistles through the apartment or when the doors move because of it, otherwise we are not aware of any fears. Miscellaneous: Chopper knows the basic commands, although he does not run perfectly on a leash and sometimes pulls, but we have always let him be a bit of a dog, which is why it did not bother us. Health: Chopper is vaccinated, chipped and dewormed. The last basic examination showed that he is in good health. Desired home: Chopper and I as the owner want a home for Chopper with enough time for activities, safety and patience. He can be alone, but it should not be excessive, it should also be retrained. We want him to be further promoted and to live out his urge for exercise. Furthermore, as the owner, I would like to stay in touch with the new owners, because Chopper's well-being is my top priority.

About Chopper

What life with Chopper looks like

Chopper is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheimverein Erfurt in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chopper, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chopper?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheimverein Erfurt handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chopper on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chopper if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheimverein Erfurt will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chopper already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chopper isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheimverein Erfurt early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chopper and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
