Churrete

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Churrete is currently one year old (as of 04/2023). Since the autumn of last year, the funny Galgo-Mix has been in the care of Puntanimals in Huelva. In October 2022, animal welfare workers received a call that a passerby had rescued a young dog on a country road, and the attentive driver also made sure that Churrete was handed over to the right people. October and February, every year are the horror months for all people in Southern Europe who are involved in animal protection. Thousands of hunting dogs are "sorted", unwanted animals are cruelly killed or abandoned. Churrete probably belonged to the dogs that were not suitable for the brutal coursing, and so he ended up on the street, almost still a baby. Our cream puff has developed into a very handsome and equally nice young man during the winter months, who has many two- and four-legged friends in the animal shelter. Churrete is happy and playful, he loves to run around with his friends in the yard and stretches out like a greyhound in the sun to warm his pink belly. Churrete really enjoys going for walks and is very excited when he is chosen by the dog walkers to accompany them on their route. As a thank you, our young gentleman behaves perfectly on the leash and makes the human at the other end shine. However, he is still missing something for absolute happiness - Churrete wishes for a real family, one for playing, hiking, loving, cuddling, and one where you know you are always safe and never have to fear being alone on the street again. Churrete is a young, lively male dog who still has a lot to learn, but in the apartment he shows many characteristics of the Galgo and is very calm and unobtrusive. Naturally, he needs much more exercise outside and would be a great companion for endurance athletes such as joggers, walkers or leisure cyclists. Churrete is a dream at home, he is fantastic outside, he loves children and other animals - and in addition, he looks great as well - should it actually be difficult to find new best friends for this amazing creature who would like to share their home with him?

DE·Show original

About Churrete

What life with Churrete looks like

Churrete is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Churrete, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Churrete?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Churrete on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Churrete if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Churrete already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Churrete isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Churrete and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
