Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Update 21.3.2025: Have you met our CIABATTINO yet? This guy brings love everywhere he goes—not just on Valentine’s Day! Ciabattino was roaming around outside the shelter in November. After nightfall, our caretaker spotted him running outside and lured him in with some tasty treats. He was nothing but skin and bones when we took him in, but since then, he has gained some weight—and, just as importantly, some joy for life! Ciabattino is good with other dogs, especially his favorite girls, Farrah and Lucky, and he absolutely adores people! He always wants to snuggle up for cuddles (and, of course, more tasty treats! Ciabattino is about 2 years old and currently weighs around 14kg (he still needs to gain some more weight). He's a very clean boy and never destroys his comfy blankets Please consider giving this wonderful boy a loving home! Update 10.12.2024: Look, how skinny and sweet he is! His story: Last night when Amelie was closing shop she found this little whitebread outside the shelter wandering up and down as if he were lost. The case is familiar, they left him outside our shelter so that we can put him in. And he, being the gullible creature dogs are, waited frantically for them to come back and pick him up. Number 114, in all other cases we would be upset but in this case, we are in love. World meet Ciabattino. Support Ciabattino Today! About Ciabattino

What life with Ciabattino looks like

Ciabattino is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Souda Shelter in Chania.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Underweight, needs to gain more weight

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ciabattino, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ciabattino?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Souda Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ciabattino on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ciabattino if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Souda Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ciabattino already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ciabattino isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Souda Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ciabattino and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
