Clay

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

In March 2023, our Spanish partners received a message from a man who wanted to get rid of his dog. He had left the young male dog to live mostly alone on his property for about a year and now had no interest in continuing to feed him. While we of course cannot understand such behavior—this dog was not helped by our friends not taking on the matter and so they went immediately and took the approximately one-year-old (as of June 2023) male dog into their care. That a such a cheerful lad like our Clay had to live under such miserable conditions is of course a real shame. On the other hand, our Frohnatur did not let her mood darken and lives up to her reputation as a Bodeguero-Spielmobil. Clay is always in a good mood, he is an absolutely typical puberting Quatschkopf and he enjoys it so much not to have to be alone anymore. Despite his long isolation, he speaks dog language perfectly and gets along well with his four-legged playmates. With people, Clay is very clingy, without being obtrusive or annoying. He just wants to make sure that these people, whom he has already grown fond of here, come back every day and engage with him. Our handsome lad now needs a family that makes it clear from the start that he will never again be left alone and that he can be sure to be a full-fledged family member. Good mood at home? With Clay of course. A perfect snuggle partner on the couch? Clay is already at the starting blocks, ready to spring into your home and heart with great enthusiasm!

About Clay

What life with Clay looks like

Clay is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Clay, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Clay?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Clay on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Clay if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Clay already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Clay isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Clay and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
