Cleopatra

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Cleopatra, or “Cleo” for short, is roughly 3 years old and has striking eyes. She was in a poor state in a rural area constantly hanging around the driveway of a kind lady who then took her in. However, her existing cat took great exception to Cleo and sadly it was not possible to integrate her into the household as hoped so she recently came in to foster care. We think Cleo has spent a fair amount of time in the past fending for herself and she has yet to fully settle into home life. Her fosterer says that during the day she is a rather reserved, self-contained girl who does not actively seek affection, yet the moment her fosterer lies on the bed a complete transformation takes place. With tail up, she absolutely adores chin rubs, showing her pleasure both with a loud purr and kneading of her paws! At first, she did not seem to understand play, but with lots of encouragement, she now plays a little which is so good to see. Cleo is still a little skittish and will need to be given time and encouragement to properly relax and settle down. She should have access to a garden/safe outdoor space at the appropriate time. Technical bits: Cleo is neutered, microchipped and will be fully vaccinated before homing. She will go home with 5 weeks free pet insurance. If you would like to offer Cleo a loving home, please download the adoption form or email us. UPDATE 30/4/26: As you can see from the video clip below, Cleo has decided to venture on to fosterer’s lap. That’s a first and lovely to see!

About Cleopatra

What life with Cleopatra looks like

Cleopatra is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at The Cats Whiskers Rescue (East Herts) in United Kingdom.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cleopatra, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cleopatra?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Cats Whiskers Rescue (East Herts) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cleopatra on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cleopatra if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Cats Whiskers Rescue (East Herts) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cleopatra already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cleopatra isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Cats Whiskers Rescue (East Herts) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cleopatra and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
