Adopt Clovis

Unknown · Senior · 11 years

Clovis comes from the seizure by authorities of 200 animals in pitiful condition at a sadly famous breeder from Chastre. Unfortunately, this is not the first time that the authorities intervene at her place. Clovis was welcomed by our colleagues from Help Animals. Since Bolomé was the only donkey in our herd, we decided to bring him a companion while also helping our colleagues who are overburdened due to the important seizures they regularly have to deal with. Clovis is a very kind donkey who comes easily to contact. We wish him to enjoy his new life for a very long time.

About Clovis

What life with Clovis looks like

Clovis is a senior horse waiting at Les Petits Vieux ASBL in Chièvres.

Adopting a horse is a long-term commitment that almost always requires either land or a boarding stable. The shelter will discuss the horse's training level, vet history, and what kind of work or companionship they're suited for. Expect ongoing costs: feed, farrier, vet, and stabling.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Clovis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Clovis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Les Petits Vieux ASBL handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Clovis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Clovis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Les Petits Vieux ASBL will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Clovis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most horses on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Clovis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Les Petits Vieux ASBL early rather than rehoming privately; they know Clovis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
