Adopt Coco in Portugal

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Gender: female/neutered Age: born 30.09.2017 Location: Shelter/Portugal compatibility with others: Social with male dogs, with female dogs it depends on the sympathy Here comes me: the pretty, uncomplicated Coco. I was found. My former owner was no longer findable, and so I came to the animal shelter. I am totally people-oriented and cuddly. With other dogs, I get along well. However, with the females, it depends on the sympathy. For safety, I am fed separately, but I don't find that at all bad. I really have no fear of anything. I am open to everything. Children from age 6 were also no problem for me in Portugal. As I have a prey drive, I will definitely keep any existing garden mouse-free. So you don't need to worry about that anymore. However, I still need to learn the dog ABC, which of course includes the relaxed walking on a leash. Maybe we could just attend the dog training classes together and practice together? Oh, I forgot to mention: I get a medication for my heart every day. This, of course, I would need to continue if I move with you. But that shouldn't be a problem, right? I would be happy if you fell in love with me and I found a new home. It should be noted that every shelter dog, especially considering its past, brings its own story. Therefore, we can never predict how the dog will actually develop and react to living together in Germany with you/Coco can travel to a foster or permanent placement.

Geschlecht: weiblich/kastriert Alter: geb.

About Coco in Portugal

What life with Coco in Portugal looks like

Coco in Portugal is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pro Dog International e.V. in Talkau.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Coco in Portugal, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Coco in Portugal?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pro Dog International e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Coco in Portugal on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Coco in Portugal if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pro Dog International e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Coco in Portugal already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Coco in Portugal isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pro Dog International e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Coco in Portugal and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
