Coco

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

This potato is Coco, a 5 year old petite Bulldog who sadly arrived in our care as a stray. When she first arrived at the centre, Coco was so scared. She could barely see out of her eyes as they were crusted over with gunk that had been left uncleaned for a long time. She was severely under her needed weight, clearly having missed many much needed meals. Coco also had overgrown claws which caused her pain when she walked. Her face folds and ears were full of dirt, causing them to be red and very sore. She was very good at letting us gently clean her up to help her feel a little more comfortable. After her initial settling in period, Coco was whisked away to see the vet. Coco was prescribed eye medication to help treat her dry eye condition. This is likely to be lifelong, but it is affordable and she is very good at having her drops applied. She was also prescribed ear drops to treat her ear infection. Coco soon felt like a new woman. She was able to enjoy her walks and meet all the wonderful volunteers. Coco absolutely loves people of all ages and is not bothered by dogs of any size or shape. She has good lead manners and is more of a plodder than an athlete kind of girl. Her gentle nature and Bulldog zoomies sum up her two available speeds. She could potentially live with children of all ages due to her soft nature. We would also be happy to introduce resident felines who are dog savvy and canine companions who are not too over the top. Please remember that brachycephalic breeds require daily maintenance, so we encourage any potential adopters to research the breed thoroughly.

About Coco

What life with Coco looks like

Coco is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Cardiff Dogs Home.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Coco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Coco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Cardiff Dogs Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Coco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Coco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Cardiff Dogs Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Coco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Coco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Cardiff Dogs Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Coco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
